Audio quality won't go above DVD quality

The highest quality I can choose from in my audio device manager is DVD quality (2 Channel, 16 bit, 48000Hz). Other computers can choose studio quality. At first I thought this was because I have no sound-card, but later I read that sound cards do not affect usb headsets/microphones.

Solution
Change your headset.

You need headphones/headset that plugs in to your sound card's 3.5mm audio out jack instead of USB port.

If you connected a set of speakers (even a modest stereo or 2.1 speaker set) directly in to the sound card jacks, you will find that all the quality format settings are available. Same applies to headphones which plug directly in to the sound card.
