I am using a laptop which only has 1 jack, but i wanted to use headphone's mic so i bought an audio splitter for it. After i tested it out the audio is working fine but the mic isn't picking up anything.

Is it possible the reason why it wont work because the audio has 3 stripe things and the headphone only 2?

Solution
No, size have to match what they are going to, If computer has 3.5mmm than male part of adapter (the 3 ring) has tomatch that. On the other side it needs two female 2.5mm plugs to match your headphones and microphone if that's what you have.

I don't quite understand that. My combined audio jack is 3.5mm and my headphones has 2.5mm. so you're saying that isn't compatible rather i need to have a 2.5mm combined jack?

My laptop is 3.5mm. Splitter is 3.5mm so that part is good. the other side of the 3.5 should be 2.5mm which is the same as my headphones. So its all correct still mic doesn't pick up and sounds only audio
