Its never done this before, but I've found that whenever there is a HDD read/write, my audio on my my work pc goes scratchy. I use a headset. I tried both the front and rear jack, aswell as a different headset, but the problem is still there.

What could it be?

With onboard, if there is heavy work going on, there is sometimes the possibility of distortion because of increased CPU or board load. Try switching to a dedicated sound card to see if the problem goes away. A inexpensive one for around $19.99 should do the trick.

Found out that the HDD has several bad sectors. According to a technician, this is causing the audio distortion whenever there is a disk read/write.. My HDD is failing :(
