I've set my updates to ask me before installing but when auto update runs and checks for updates it still uses my entire disk. It even does it while I'm in games which causes my games to lag. It's not constant so it's not too bad it but it's still annoying getting choppy frame rates especially when in multiplayer games. Is this normal and is there anything I can do to make it not run while in games?

There is of course viruses to consider. Other services can impact your disc usage

Anti-virus suites can also be the cause http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2045646/windows-100-disk-usage/page-2.html
