ive been having this issue for a while now and cannot find a solution to it. I i had 3 1080p monitors and upgraded 1 to a 1440p and a bit after that i got a windows update. The problem started a short time after this and not sure if one of these could be causing it.

basically what happens is when i have autohide taskbars on it can at times cause some major windows lag/ short freeze up. For example when it happens i can press the windows key and nothing happens for lik 10+ seconds then the start menu pops up. it can also affect things like double clicking a youtube video to fullscreen it.

I do get an error message though it doesnt pop up too often for some reason: "A toolbar is already hidden on this side of your screen. You can only have one auto-hide toolbar per side".

Another thing it does is sometimes it will automatically uncheck the hide toolbar option but for some reason most times it only stops autohiding my left and right monitor's toolbars (the 2 1080p ones) but the middle (1440p) will still have autohide on sometimes. Reenabling the option makes all 3 work again but the issue eventually comes up again and i have no idea how to fix this.

Solution
right click start button
choose powershell (admin)
copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth
and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow
and press enter

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files
SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

Windows can remember some settings in a roaming profile, and its possible it keeps changing the middle desktop back to some setting it had before. You can go into settings/accounts/windows backup and disable either
remember my apps
or
remember my preferences
Its the 2nd one that might be remembering desktop taskbar settings.

Win 10 used to remember desktop wallpapers, and I swapped from 1080p to 4k monitor, but windows kepts showing a 1080p desktop wallpaper. I had to turn it off.
