Hi, does anyone know how to turn off the CD ROM Autoplay function in WIN2K?

Also, how can you check to see if DMA is enable for a drive?

The help files don't see to be very helpful on these issues.

Thanks.

Windows2000 does not enable DMA by default so it's a good thing to check on even if you think it is. Goto device manager-> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers & check properties on both primary & secondary IDE channels, the transfer mode will be under advanced settings.
Note: The CD Burner & DMA combo tends to "burn coasters" :)
I don't recall where the autorun settings are but grab TweakUI v1.33 Available (almost) anywhere, It's handy for that & several other things.
Also check out www.windows2000faq.com it's a great site for troubleshooting

Stoic:

Thanks for the help, I'll give it a shot.

I've noticed that some of the settings really seem to be "buried" in Win2K.

I had heard that tweakui doesn't work well with Win2k. Does v1.33 work properly?

Thanks again.

To disable autorun drill down to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom

Look for the value name "Autorun" and change to value data from "1" to "0"

Yes TweakUI v1.33 not only works well, but is for Win2k.
