I had a laptop with a wireless card in it that connected to a Linksys
802.11b WAP for use on my home network. That system used Win2K. I recently
replaced that laptop with one that has built-in wirless capability and it
runs XP Professional. It still connects to my home netowrk via the same
Linksys WAP. Most of the time the connection works fine but occasionally I
get a message that says no wirless network is available. That is then
replaced by one telling me several wirless networks are avaleable and to
select one. Besides the Linksys connection that list usually includes
belkin and 1 other network. I have no belkin equipment in the house. If
the system automatically selects belkin it usually says it has low signal
strength. In order to get the Linksys connection back I need to disable the
wireless connection and re-enable it. Where is it getting the belkin from
and is there a way to prevent it from ever trying to use that network. Also
my WAP is only inches from teh laptop so I don't understand why it would
lose the connection. I do have a 2.4Ghz phone on the desk and when I use
the handset I sometimes lose the wireless connection but I understand that
is because both the phone and the WAP operate at 2.4 Ghz. but this happens
even when the phone is not in use. Lastly, the old laptop never lost the
wireless connection, even when I was using the phone's handset.
