Average length and width of stock CPU coolers?

Hey guys, I know this is a really weird question to ask but if anyone knows the average demsions of heat sinks for stock CPU coolers, mostly for old systems. When I say old I mean machines built or that were used with Vista, XP, 2000. Around that period of time, give or take a few years if that makes it easier. If you could throw in the cooler for the northbridge as well on old motherboards that would be really helpful. It doesn't have to be overly accurate.
