First off system specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700
Motherboard: ASRock AB350 Pro4 BIOS 3.20 (AGESA 1.0.0.6b)
Memory: Avexir Core Series 2x8GB 2400MHz PC4-19200 DDR4 1.2V
GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
HDD: Western Digital WDC WD20EARX-00PASB0 2000 GB
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

I tried overclocking them to 2666 without changing the volt (1.2V) and the timings were set to Auto.

Stock settings 2400Mhz: 16-16-16-36-55-1 (tCAS-tRC-tRP-tRAS-tCS-tCR) @1.2V, Dual Channel mode
new settings 2666Mhz: 18-18-18-40-61-1 still @1.2V
were the new timings bad? How could I improve the Overclock?

Solution
To do with cycle times to release used ram

Not going to go into detail because it would be a huge post.

1t is faster than 2t at the same speed/timings.

Its not enough to counteract a frequency jump though.
2933 cas 18 2t will still be faster than 2666 cas 16 1t

That said if you can keep 1t command rate at 2666 & get those timings down to close to stick 2400 then you will have done well.

2t should be forced at automatic settings on speeds above 2400 but the b350 chipset will let you keep 1t command rates

If you tried for 2933 you would absolutely 100% be on 2t because those 8gb sticks are double sided & it won't run at 1t at that speed.

These guys got 2666 with standard 2400 timings & 2933 with better timings than you're currently running at 2666 (with 1.35v)

Thats the same kind of result I got with crucial ballistix 2400 - I wonder if the avexir is micron nand the same ?? As the timings are identical.

^ like I said mate , I think they're micron based , & the well binned stuff is immensely overclockable.

I actually hit 3200 on mine but with stability problems in windows , a little more voltage 'may' have proved stable but you can't go past 1.35v on the pro4 & I'd deem anything higher slightly dangerous anyway.

Try it though , nothing to lose at all.
