avg lifespan of a Vidio card??

Aug 2, 2001
Just wondering what the lifespan of vidio cards are. I sold my GF3 ti 200 to a friend about 6 months ago. I had it running mildly overclocked for much of the time i had it about 1 1/2 years. Anyways my friend doesn't overclock at all and it died after 6 months for a total lifespan of about 2 years. Is this normal??... I thought it would last 3 or 4 years at least.

Well overclocking, regardless how much, is sure to reduce the average lifespan no question. One thing also that might contribute a great deal to hardware having a reduced lifespan is dust build up. I have a can of compressed gas that I use at least once a month to blow the dust off the inside components and the most important part, the fans. The temperture of my cpu and mobo raise by about 10% when idle before I blow off the dust so in a months time my temperture in my computer raises 10%. This is without my case on even, I leave it off because with it on my computer was getting to over 70C in just a few weeks from its last cleaning where it had been at 55C originally. And these temps are all when the computer is idle so imagine what it would get to under load. So this sort of long term heat can shorten its life as well.

What a coincidence, my Ti4200 also died short of two years. I didn't OC it, and I cleaned it every 3-4 weeks.

Hope my next card lasts longer.

"Just wondering what the lifespan of vidio cards are"

Ive had my Geforce mx440 for years, It use to sit in a case with no ventilation or cooling, covered in dust so thick the fan barley moved and I couldnt recognize anything on the card, The cards still running strong in my new rig and is working as a temp till I get the 6800, and then Itll probably see plenty of action in my girlfriends comp. Its like those old junk cars that just wont die.
