Avid or Adobe

I am aspiring to go into a cinematography career. If I am going to be doing some serious video editing, which program is the best (User interface, power, and overall value)? People keep recommending Final Cut, but I want a windows compatible program like Avid or Adobe.

I have a very good freind who does video editing as a hobby.
He is a sworn user of Adobe, I think it is called Adobe Premier.

The only reason he is still using Windows... aparently.

But not all is lost for Linux users.
From what I understand, Cinerella is very, very good as well.
Maybe they have a Windows version?
