AVR/UPS and PFC

I am having a lot of confusion between these terms. I know that an UPS is used to provide backup for a while when the main power goes off. PFC (pure sine wave power) is a function which certain UPSs provide for compatibility with Active PFC power supplies. Where does AVR come into the picture in it. Are AVR and PFC connected in any sense?

Any clarification would be much appreciated.
