Last night I was playing some rust during a pretty brutal thunderstorm and the power to my house ended up flickering and then immediately came back on. As soon as my pc got back to the windows login this awful hum started playing through my headset (HyperX Cloud 2 connected via USB) and has not gone away since. Here's what I've tried so far:
Plugging headset into different USB - Hum persists.
Using AUX end of the headset instead of USB - Hum does get quieter but its still really loud
Using the AUX port on my monitor (Benq XL2456K connected via DisplayPort) - Hum gets down a very low volume that can only be noticed when other audio isn't playing.
Plugging headset into different pc via USB/AUX - Headset sounds normal and Hum is not noticeable
Resetting power strip/plugging pc directly into wall - Hum Persists.
I don't have any other playback devices to plug into my pc to test with but I assume something either got fried when the power flickered last night, or the flicker somehow affected the grounding somewhere within the system. Not really sure how to continue about assessing the damage from here or fixing the system. Let me know what you all think.
