Wondering why some motherboards start with a "B" :
Asus B85M-E
Asus B85M-E/CSM
Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H
Asrock B85M Pro4
ect..
and others start with an "H"
Gigabyte GA-H81M-DS2V
Asrock B85M Pro4
ASUS H81M-D

I know an "M" on the end with indicate micro ATX, but what does starting with an H or B indicate? and is there any other letters that indicate some specification (i.e. the Asus H81M-D for a good example)?
Side-question: What is a "Z" indicative of. Excelling at overclocking?

The letters and following numbers indicate the chipset used in the motherboards.

For example, B85M-E means the motherboard uses the B85 chipset.

The H81-D motherboard uses the H81 chipset.

And motherboards that use Z68, Z75, or Z77 chipsets will have the Z68 or Z75 or Z77 designation in the motherboard model to indicate what chipset is being used in the respective motherboards.

They represent different Intel chipsets. The main ones are B, H and Z, with X being an enthusiast platform. The ones you commonly see come in the format Hx1, Hx7, Bx5, Zx7, Xx9 (where 'x' is the chipset series). Examples of these are H81 (80 series), Z97 (90 series), H170 (100 series) and so on.
