My motherboard is the MSI b450-a pro max and I'm wondering if I want to overclock my ram, do I turn on the XMP button on the top left, when i click it it ask me which profile 1 or 2 which do i choose

On the memory tab, the DRAM frequency should be half of the rated speed for your RAM. Again, I have DDR4-3200 RAM, half of that is 1600 (1599.6 is close enough).

I have the non-"MAX" version of that motherboard. Profile one didn't seem to do anything for my 2x8GB DDR4-3200 RAM (still ran at 2133). Profile 2 picked up my RAM and ran it at it's advertised 3200Mhz.

Which profile you choose is probably dependent on the RAM you have installed. Just try them both to see if either causes you an issue.
