Good Day everyone

I am planning on puchasing my first ryzen cpu together with a b450m bazooka plus motherboard. Was just wondering, will I be able to install the cpu and my current gpu into the motherboard and then do the bios flash or will that cause damage to the cpu. Should I rather connect the motherboard first, update bios then connect cpu and gpu afterwards?

Kind Regards
Vincent

Well if you don't upgrade your GPU then a 3600X would be fine, I'd actually spring for the Ryzen 5 3600 as you get something like 97% of the performance for $50 less that you can put towards a better CPU cooler. Also try to get an RTX 2070 Super.

I would make sure the board had the proper BIOS when I bought it.

....and either one of those CPUs should keep you gaming for a long time.
they both can handle pretty much any GPU out there.
Hi Jay

How do you plan I do that, should I ask whoever I am buying it from too update it beforehand?

That motherboard can update the bios even with no CPU installed, though there's no problem with installing the cpu and then updating it since the USB bios flashback function doesn't actually even boot the PC. Instructions are on page 38 of the manual. Sometimes this function doesn't work with newer USB 3.0 flash drives so get a really cheap USB 2.0 drive.

You're welcome.....but I would try and confirm it has the latest BIOS from whoever I bought it from.

Of course you could by any version and do the upgrade yourself....but then you have added work....but what I think is more critical is the added risk of upgrading a BIOS. Bad things can happen upgrading a BIOS.
K yeah thanks, would be nice if the motherboard came updated since I was planning on buying it a month from now.

I brought a 3600, and a b450 just 3 days ago, the motherboard was not compatible and had to get a 2nd gen ryzen chip (with amd vega graphics)... Msi have fllashback, which lets you sort out the compatibility issue without a cpu in the socket, but like the other person said it might not work, as some have had problems with msi

Ah ok thanks Gambino, I will probably wait then and see what happens down the line with the compatibility.
