Hi everyone,

I've just bought my son a Ryzen 5 5600X CPU as an upgrade but his PC won't boot now. The EZDebug CPU light is lit on the board. I've used mflash to get to the latest bios version but still no joy. Any advice is welcome ...

Mortar Max B450M MS-7B89 AM4

bios flashed to v2.k0 20/10/2023

Ryzen 5 5600X

Thanks in advance, Sandy

I'm working on the assumption that this is a CPU upgrade for a system that was already known working.

That BIOS date and naming doesn't quite match the MSI site (2023-10-26/v2K) is this a prebuilt system?

What CPU was in there before?

Does the old CPU still work?

Yeah, all working with the old cpu at the moment, but if I swap for the new cpu then it won't boot.

Bios details came from speccy. I did download the latest from msi website for B450M though.

Current cpu is ryzen 5 5600

Thanks

Sounds like the CPU is bad then because they both have the same base TDP so there's no technical reason the new one wouldn't work with what you have.

Just as a piece of information the 5600X is rather unlikely to give any meaningful performance increase over the non-X.

right, it takes the same bios update for a 5600 to work as a 5600x. so that's not the issue if the 5600 still works.

i'd go with what thestryker said and start looking at the cpu being bad.

have you tried the new one on a different system to be sure it works if possible?

Thanks for diagnosis.

Sorry, old cpu is a 3600, I made a typo.

I was wondering cause there seems to be some pins soldered together, I'll try and get a decent photo.

Don't have another system to test it on but may ask the local computer shop if they could test for me.
