Motherboard - b550 tomhawk msi
Nvme - gen 3 x4

Ok so in user manual of b550 tomhawk msi it shows combinations of m.2 and PCIe slots allowed but i cant understand the table.
Location of table : page 29 of user manual(english) of motherboard (https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/MAG-B550-TOMAHAWK#down-manual)

What i want to do is attach the graphic card in PCI_E1 slot and nvme into M2_2 slot ( i want ssd to be far away from graphic card ).

Will the combo work . Also please explain me the table. Its so confusing.

That will work, both at full speed.

PCE_1 and M2_1 always run at full speed since they are direct CPU link.
Everything that runs through the PCH can be limited due to a limited number of lanes.

Read the sentence above the chart for the bottom line on using devices that go to the PCH: "When installing devices in M.2_2, PCI_E2 & PCI_E3 slots at the same time, PCI_E3 slot will be unavailable, and M2_2 slot only supports PCIe x2."

PCI_E4 is an x1 slot so it doesn't matter under any conditions.

One M.2 and PCIe x16 slot will always go through the CPU. If you use the other M.2 slot or any other PCIe slot, it goes through the chipset. Though depending on the board, I can imagine one other PCIe x16 slot is from the CPU, but it'll configure both PCIe x16 slots as 8 lanes each if both are populated. Depending on the manufacturer, using the other M.2 slot usually results in losing usage of other ports or slots. For example, I had a B450 board that disabled the PCIe x4 slot if I used the other M.2 slot for anything. My current board, a B550, will disable at least two SATA ports if I use the secondary M.2 slot.

As others have noted it will work but what's missing is that the NVME in M2_2 slot will work no higher than PCIe Gen 3 bandwidth even if it's a Gen 4 NVME. So if that's your plan save the cost of a Gen 4 SSD and get Gen 3 instead.
