Back and Building a New baby

Hey guys I just got the internet up and running in my house for the first time in 1.4 years. Its nice to be back in the digital realm once again. And so to celibrate I am going to buy a new computer box and looking to see whats new Im really a supporter of AMD and I have 1.5k I can spend on the Box without Hardrives. Also I am thinking I want the SLI graphics cards so looking on spending 800 or so on two GT6800 but if you have any advice I would love to hear what you have to say.

I agree with the 7800GTX, but I don't agree with the 3500+. It looks to me like you are going to be very close to budget after you get these other components and I think that getting a 3200+ might save you a few bucks.

Is the 7800GX that good A SLI GT6800 gives almost twice the power as a GT6800 with out SLI yeah it will be $600+. Anyway I will look up some tests I really haven't seen the new 7800GX since I have been wanting SLI. I agree with the 3200 after I checked it out this is what I think I will get.

You should definitvly drop the SLI because not all games support SLI some even take a performance hit so you'll end up with much less power!

Get a 7800GTX and you can always get a SLI board if you like.(altough gettin a ULTRA will save you a few bucks

Also the DDR600 is serious overkill(specially if you dont OC) I think that good DDR500 with low timming(the OCZ EL is a good choice) will be enough headroom!

2 things I would change.

1) I don't like the ASUS A8N. I think that the DFI are way better boards, especially if you wish to OC. The Epox boards are a cheaper alternative, and still a great price for the board you get, but if you are planning on OCing I would pay the few bucks to get the DFI LP NF4 Ultra-D.
2) Don't go SLi. You save the money getting the Ultra-D board instead of the SLi, and you get the 7800GTX.
3) You only have 512Mb RAM? I would get 1Gb, if you aren't OCing (or just lightly) then you can save a few bucks by getting some RAM with higher timings, if you are planning on OCing then get good timings, it'll cost you extra though.

Sorry, I guess there was 3 things I would change.

Remember that if you want, you can still get the SLi version of whatever board you decide and then get a second 7800GTX later . I'm not a big fan of this route, and am an even bigger sceptic of SLi than I make myself out to be.

Ok I think I will go the 7800GTX and keep the SLI board for when I want to upgrade and get a cheaper 7800GTX and get a 50% plus boost in some games and buy that time most new ones will support SLI. Anyway I also think that I will change to lower ram mhz and go for cheaper and lower timings depending on where I sit after I change the price with the 7800GTX

There is no question. This is a way better rig than you specified above. You are still going to have to explain to me why you are going with the ASUS board. I will try to change your mind once again, but if you don't want to take my word for it maybe you will take the word of one of the most respected <A HREF="http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2358&p=21" target="_new">review sites of today</A>. If you actually do look at that linky, make sure that you look around a bit, take a look at the competition, see what they recommend, but most importantly look at the test results. I think you will come out of it a changed man, or at least the mobo might change on this list.

The other thing I wanted to mention was that I noticed you didn't have a PSU included in the price. I can assure you this system will be a little bit of a power draw and you are gonna want a worthy PSU.

Oh and wondering will a 400 watt powersupply be enough to power this monster?

Yep great drives if he needs them. I am still unsure whether money is well spent on a Raptor for gamers. I guess it helps with level loading, but other than that??

There's a DFI that has SLI and one that don't even though both have 2 PCIe X 16 slots. Just make sure that you're getting the one you really want.
