Can i backup (clone) a full disk encryption - password protected on to a new HDD and restore back onto the same laptop? I tried using Acronis True Image to do this (sector by sector) and i encountered error when restored: Boot record 0xc000000f ... i cannot use mbr fix as it will not detect any windows installed.

Backup:
Laptop (FDE disk) --> Clone into HDD
Recovery
HDD clone image -> same Laptop.

Solution
There are tools like easybcd that will write an mbr and even a new BCD store to the disk but I have a feeling that this is part of the protection and that the files on the disk get garbled when they get written on a different hardware hdd.

You will have to read the manual of the laptop or FDE disk and see what method they suggest for backup.
