Hey, everyone. my hard drive is dying, still under warranty, but id like to back up my files as well i won't get them back if i send them to seagate, so my plan is to buy an external hard drive transfer my files before more of them get corrupt, as i've attempted to repair the drive around 6 or 7 times now each time coming back with another problem, first started off with a sort of corrupt update of windows. having to revert back to an older update. but as its been going on its been slowly getting worse. so i've been off my computer for awhile so it doesn't get worse. i haven't tried seagates other repair method via a mountable image of some sort, but they recommend a file back up which i do not have at the moment, so i'm just wondering how to go about this whole thing, will i need a new copy of windows 10 to recover my backed up files? as i'm not really sure how this goes, i've had problems like this before but just transferred all my files to another hard drive, (this current one which i haven't had for all that long probably less then a year?)

I'm just kind of lost about this whole thing, and how to go about this, for sure i need to back up my files but once this whole back up happens where do i go from there? will windows itself be backed up to an image of some sort which i just install via the external hard drive like a usb mounted OS?

Sorry if this isn't all that helpful just comment if you need something clarified.

TLDR, Hard drives slowly being corrupted need to back up my files where do I go from there?

Seagate 2TB SSHD (hybrid drive)

Update?: Hey everyone, this is a bit of an awkward update, i feel like this happens a lot to me on this website, while i was sitting around doing nothing at all thinking about my computer i remembered back to about a week ago where my computer wouldn't boot correctly, and i wiggled the sata cable to get it to work again, so I went back and it turns out my sata data cable to my SSHD was the problem, not the drive itself, so as a lesson to anyone who might also be having a hard drive problem, don't be stupid like me, check your cables.

Solution
You will want to pick up a cloning utility like Acronis True Image, it will copy the entire drive contents and let you make a true copy of the system to a new drive. No OS purchase required. It does cost money, but is really easy to use.

A free alternative would be Clonezilla which is a free Linux boot rom. Not as user friendly, but can copy a drive in the same manner.

You will still need that external drive, of course.
