I bought my son a 1 TB Samsung T7 Shield (portable) for Christmas to backup his gaming PC. He has a 500 GB M.2 NVMe SSD and an extra 1 TB SATA SSD in his system.
If I use Macrium to do a system image backup will the backup fit on the 1TB portable SSD? is there anything extra I need to do or be aware of when imaging the partitions? Will Macrium figure it out for me?

How much space is consumed on each drive?

For instance...
500GB, with 200GB actual consumed space
1TB with 400GB actual consumed space.

Images of both those will easily fit on a 1TB drive.

Macrium Images are a single file representation of the entire drive contents.
And does a little bit of compression.

Those two drives will end up as 2 individual files.
File names of xxxxxx.mrimage or similar.

Recommend you create two folders on the external, labeled for each physical drive.
"C Drive Image"
"D Drive Image"
The Image for each goes into the respective folder.

The 500 Drive (c) is 360 GB consumed space;
the 1TB Drive (d) is 607 GB consumed space.
I will name two folders like you said. and do the image backups.

I really appreciate it. you always give amazing and timely advice.

The Image of C will come in at around 300GB
The Image of D will be around 550GB.

Macrium leaves off irrelevant things like the pagefile.
And the default config is a little bit of compression.

Will fit no problem.
