backing up memory

It will be really useful if you could provide more information on the problem you are facing.
I assume that "weak" is the health status of the drive after being tested with some HDD tool. If this is the case, and the computer still works fine, I would advise you to back up(drag and drop is the simplest way) the data as soon as possible. After that you can get a new HDD and perform a clean install. After the health status of the HDD is "weak", cloning the whole drive may not be the best option.

nothing you just said makes sense. of course you can back up ANY hard drive with an external hard drive.
