Backplate of NZXT Kraken x61 fall of?

Hi Toms

I recently installed NZXT Kraken x61 cooling system by following the manual. Everything seems to be done correctly since the pump works like a charm. Today I opened my case to blow some dust out and noticed that the backplate of the watercooling was loose in one of the backplate's corners. As I grab the loosen corner the backplate just popped out? The cooling system is still sitting on the motherboard which is supported by the four screws and it seems that it is not affected by the backplate at all. My question is:

Is the backplate supposed to sit on the back of the motherboard?
Is it necessery to put the backplate back and what could I have done wrong since the backplate just simply fall of?

Hello Sphartan!

To answer your questions, yes the back plate is suppose to sit on the back of the motherboard(depending on which CPU you have). If the back plate fell off due to one of the corners being loose, it could be of 2 things in my experience is that it was either a damaged back plate from the factory or that the screws that were installed with the back plate was too tight damaging the corners of the back plate.

With that said, I am wondering what type of CPU do you have? If you have an Intel CPU, please email me at Harry.Nong@nzxt.com referring this thread and I can help you out with a new back plate.

Thank you for your honest answer. I do not think I have tighten the screws to much since I can tighten them more if it was suppose to. I am running Intel i7 4770k processor which is LGA1150 socket? When looking at the backplate nothing seems to be broken or worn out it could indicate (after your reply) that the screws were not seated properly on the backplate. I have sent you an email thank you very much for your understanding looking forward to a solution

I think you screwed in the wrong type of standoffs into the motherboard (using the intel 2011 standoffs are too short to hold the backplate). You need to use the long grey ones:

The small one is for the LGA2011 socket and I used the long one which is for LGA1150, so I used the correct screw that should not be the problem. Otherwise thank you for your answer

They are still on the screws it is only the backplate that fell of which is really strange :/

Well that makes sense but when I tried it that way it couldnt fit my Asus maximus formula board, it just couldnt get into the hole? Have a destroyed the backplate now or?

you can dismount the threads and get them back into the backplate again.
They really should fit into the holes of the motherboard. Which formula is it exactly? VI? VII?

It is a Formula VII, but it seems that I should just press the threads a bit harder. It now sits as it should - Thank you very much!

Backplate correctly mounted

Just a second question, with the cooler installed and the i7 CPU is it normal with a idle temp of 31-35C for a non-overclocked i7? The cooler is running with 40% fan speed and 2640 rpm pump
