Question Backup automated method?

Hi there,

I am setting up a external backup drive for m laptop. I do not require a backup of the windows disk image, just a few folders.

I am wondering if there is a function in windows or an app that will detect whenever the backup external drive is plugged in and compare the contents of the backup folders in the external drive to the contents of a set list of folders stored on the PC (pictures, documents) and then backup any differences that are detected

I would use a backup software if i were you.
Acronis True Image is a good one for around 50 USD

There is a backup function built into Windows 10 called File History that can be used. You can find it under Settings > Update & Security > Backup. Turn on the slider for Automatically Back up my files, and then you can go into More Options and specify the external drive you want to back up to, plus tell it which folders on the laptop drive you want it to back up, as well as how often to back them up and how long to keep the backups.
