Hi,

I'm noticing some problems with fitting the Artic Freezer Pro 7 on my Intel Bad Axe 2 motherboard and was hoping to get some advice. When installed as suggested with the air blowing towards the rear exhaust fan the chipset heatsink is interferring with the 92mm fan clip. I can push it in which pushes the heatsink plastic just a very tiny amt though and everything is attached. It is touching though but when I push down on either the chipset heatsink or the freezer pro both seem to be able to move and slide.

I'm not sure if that's safe to do since I don't want to hurt the thermal contact with the chipset heatsink and I want to make sure the freezer pro is totally touching the CPU. The one solution I've found so far is that the 92mm fan they give you with the freezer can practiclly clip anywhere on the heatshink. So if I clip the fan just one fin higher it fit's perfectly fine. The only problem is that the bottom most fin won't get any air coming from the fan.

I've attached a picture of it touching to take a look at so you can get a better idea of what I mean. Any ideas? Is it safe just to connect the freezer pro 7 fan up one fin and have everything fit fine? Should I just leave it as is with it touching?

Thanks in advance! (Picture is below)

That will be fine. Just touching wont hurt either heatsink, but you dont want any pushing on either of them. I figure if you can fairly easily slide a piece of paper between the two you will be fine. Clipping the fan that tiny amount higher won't effect your cooling hardly at all.

Yeah, I think they are pushing just a tiny bit on each other. I can't slide a peice of paper in between the two. It sounds like the fan clipping a little higher is the way to go then.

Anyone see issues with doing that or have experience? I'm not OC'ing the processor (E6700) so that shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks!

I used a hacksaw to trim the frame of the fan just a little and then it fit fine. The fan still mounts tightly with no movement.

Again, especially since you aren't OCing, it will be fine. Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro has plenty of cooling power to cool an E6700 even if it was only using half the fan.

Hershey, would you be able to post some pics of what your cut out fan looks like? I may do that if it's not too much trouble.

Short of that I'll probably just mount it higher as everyone suggested it shouldn't be a big deal with circulation across the fins.

Thanks!

I would if I could, but I don`t have a digital camera.I just trimmed a small portion of the lower left of the frame, not, much, just a small piece. If you hold it up to the heatsink you will be able to see where to cut.Just remember to cut a small piece because you can always trim more if you need to.Don`t be worried that you can`t do it.you decided to build your own computer,if you can do that, you can do this. You just need to take your time and I`m sure it will come out fine.

Ok, thanks for the help Hershey. I may try to just raise it first since I won't be OC'ing and if it raises temp's then I'll do the cut out. What temp's should I be looking for on an E6700? Anything below 60 C under full load?

Any ideas on programs to help simulate full load CPU temp's?

Thanks!

I hope it works for you.I think all I did was cut off the edge that fits over the cooling fins and it fit.I have the E6600 and I think the temps are good to 61c on both of these CPUs.I haven`t run any tests on mine, but I think most people run Prime 95 alot.I`ve heard people say it`s freely availible on the internet.I`ll do a Google search and see if I can find it.I don`t know nearly as much as alot of people on this forum, but I`m glad to help in any way I can as I`ve learned alot from the others here.Let me know how things turn out for you.

I just downloaded from a web site: www.majorgeeks.com
and did a virus check on it and it came back clean.Just look for Prime95 there.
