Bad FPS for my rig

So I play FPS's mainly, my rig is
GTX 970
i5 4690k
So in my main game, Rainbow 6 siege, with everything on low or off, and all programs closed, I am lucky to get around 120-140 FPS with drops into the 100's, and this is very bad because I have a 144hz monitor, and I know somethings wrong with my computer because my friends who have identical or worse rigs than me get better FPS on high settings than I play at.

Run a benchmark and/or some other games. You won't find published benchmarks with everything low, so it's hard to say for sure what's wrong, especially with no information about what your friends actually have and what actual FPS they're getting.
