Monitor Asus VG248QE

All of these issues have started since I bought the new monitor didnt care before because I was getting 60 fps.

When i join a game in bad company 2 or any other game i am using 11% gpu power. When I alt-tab and rejoin i get 99% usage and 200+fps.

Whats going on here I have never ran into this before.

Solution
Let's clean up some possible software issues first. Run CCleaner and do the Clean and Registry portions both to get rid of most registry errors and software conflicts: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Run Malwarebytes to be sure no malware is interfering: https://www.malwarebytes.org/

Might as well update your virus pgm and signatures and run a full scan too.

Then disable as much stuff as possible that is running in the background. Look in your tray for stuff you can disable.

I need to go to the desktop then go back into the game with out restarting it in order to get the correct FPS

That's what I mean. Check that one of the in-game settings isn't set for playing in window-mode. Window-mode won't always show a border, so you can't always tell the difference.

It's like the cards don't know I am in a game. I can play a game once the map is over the server switches to another and I get the bad performance again.

Heck farcry 4 wont even start crashes to desktop.

So I reinstalled Nvidia Drivers that seems to make it stable. Quick question is there any way to force a card to work at 99% in games where it does only 50%

If you would be so kind to answer another question that I have.

So if you have a 144hz monitor is it always 144hz???? I have it set to 144hz in nvidia settings. But some games also have a option for the HZ in the settings. How do I know I am getting 144hz in my games? I am very new to gaming monitors and none of this makes any sense to me.

A monitor with a 144Hz vertical refresh rate simply means it will wipe (refresh) the screen top to bottom 144 times every second. Always. Even while sitting at the desktop idle. That will also be the limit to how many frames per second while gaming you will ever see. It is totally independent of the game and the card settings. So, to answer your question, your monitor will always be refreshing the screen 144 times per second. In-game settings for Hz may change what the game engine sends to the card per second, but the monitor will always refresh the same.
