Question bad motherboard?

Yesterday I had to reboot my ( about 5 years old) system. IT would not come up. Windows would kinda start but then hang with a black screen. I thought it was a hard drive
problem so I brought it back from backup. Still doesn't boot. Would not boot into safe mode either. When trying to reinstall windows it couldn't write to the
drive. I changed out drives but the same thing happened. Could this me a motherboard issue?

Did you try using a different SATA cable, both data and power? If you have tried different cables as well, then it might be a faulty motherboard SATA port.

I actually tried to re-install windows on two different drives connected separately and both have me the same problem. This is an old 1155 system so if I have to replace the MB I have to replace processor and memory too. So What tests can I run that might help me determine if its a bad MB?

Try replacing the battery.
