It's actually a GTX 970. a GTX 1080 for higher resolution gaming.

The 1050 TI's performance is similar to that of the GTX 960. Making it not as far behind the 970 as it may seem. But, the performance difference is massive. He should still be able to drive the game on medium to high detail.
 


For one, he's got a GTX 1050 not a 1050 Ti. Second, the GTX 960 is further behind the GTX 970 than you think, the gap is the furthest between those two cards than any other 2 consecutively numbered GTX 900 series cards.

Or wait for NVidia to launch the next series and wait 1-2 more months for custom cards to become available and since those will be sold out on launch night, wait an additional 2 months to be able to buy one.
