I got a GTX 670 for virtually nothing to replace my old HD 6670. Installed it in my desktop and when put under heavy load the fans on the PC slow down (Including GPU fan) and the screen goes black after ~1:30 (GPU still reasonably cool from logs) but if i remove the load sometimes the computer will recover.
So just about anyone would say: Power supply. However my 600W (36A 12v 20A 5v) Supply should be able to handle a 670 and a 2500k (no overclock on either). however it is a generic (EXTREME GEAR) so I am not surprised by an OEM supply not performing to spec... But still if it gave 450W that should run the setup well. If i under-clock the GPU to 70% the system will remain usable but the fans still slow down.
So am I correct in thinking that I will need to break down and get a new power supply? If it was just a black screen i would think it is a gpu but if the 12v rail is dropping in voltage that would do it.
Any ones i should look at? (I was thinking something like a corsair 750W) Is getting a used one a really bad idea?
