my father in laws pc shuts self off after 2 and a half hours and when i checked it out the Processer was running fine adn i figured even if it was the processer it would be shutting dwon a lot faster

Solution
I would test the power supply with another power supply. However, 2 and a half hours in sounds like maybe something is overheating? Check your temps. Also, I would look at motherboard before cpu since 90% of the time when it is between motherboard or cpu, it is motherboard with 10% of the time it is cpu. Basically, it is rare for a cpu to go out.

Yea I have yet to still come across a "bad" CPU unless something else fried it (I have seen quite a few Power Supplies take out Motheboards, CPU, RAM, HDD's).

If it was a thermal even, ie CPU running too hot, It should shut itself down gracefully (Normal windows shutdown) and then when you boot it back up it would say last shutdown was due to a thermal event. And if it is over heating it would be withing 5 minutes of turning on the PC.

Does it just turn straight off? Maybe try unplugging everying except what is needed?
