I had a PSU go bad over the weekend, and I've got a new one ready this morning. My concern is that when I discovered the PSU was bad, I also noticed that my EVGA GTX 1070 FTW had a burnt smell coming from the power area. Is it safe to connect this card to see if it still works, or is it likely the cause of my bad PSU? I don't want to fry another PSU to test this video card, but at the same time the GPU is far more expensive than a PSU and I'd really like to see if I can get away with keeping it. Any advice, even bad news, is welcomed!
EDIT: I've been doing more research since I posted this, and I now realize that the PSU could be good, and just the GPU has gone bad. I'm still curious if it's safe to connect this GPU to a new PSU to test it, though. I won't be home to do more testing until this evening, but if that current PSU is good (I've not tried to boot with the GPU disconnected, so that's why I'm unsure), I'll use it to test the GPU and hold the new PSU for a known safe system.
