my brother got a p5n-d mobo with an e8400, gtx275 and 2x2gb of ddr2-800 ram. it ran fine for a while but now it is freezing up. i figured one of the memory sticks was bad so i took one out and the machine ran fine. however it runs fine with both sticks of ram just not when they r together.

to test the ram more, i took it out of his pc and put it in mine (i have like the exact same machine). both sticks work in my machine just fine. so is it a bad mobo?

other thing i considered was that the voltage drops with 4gb of ram in his machine. i havnt tried manually upping the voltage yet since i dont even know if that is possible.

the computer will freeze in bios, before post bios, on the post bios screen, while loading the os, or once inside the os. since it will freeze before post bios i think it has to be some sort of hardware issue, but idk if it is the mobo.

in about 30seconds of google I found that board has a history of being finicky with memory.

so its most likely a "both" problem.

you could try putting in one chip
setting the memory settings manually then adding the second chip.
make sure the voltage esp. is correct.
