I just got 16gb of DDR4 Ballistix Sport ram(2x8gb). Says its rated for 3000 speed but I got it to 3200 and is running great. Is it bad for the ram to be overclocked past what it says it can do?

As long as you aren't pushing it too far, it should be safe. With that being said, overclocking ram will show little to no improvements in performance. At most, you might get a few frames more in some games. Overclocking ram is the most useful if you frequently use memory intense applications such as Photoshop or after-effects.

I do game often but I also do a lot of music production and video work. I might just stick to 3000 to be safe

Generally ram is sold at the speed it was tested to be stable at. That said sometimes you can get lucky and run it faster.

BUT

You should download memtest86 and run it multiple times (at least 7 or 8) full passes to make sure its stable. If it fails at all, your overclock is bad and it should be removed. How this shows up in the real world: the ram seems stable but you have occasional crashes, they increase over time, and end up corrupting your OS install or something else.
