Bad Windows boot?

So I recently upgraded my computer, a new CPU, video card, and RAM. After the installation I started windows and got a failed boot for windows, I never got this before my upgrade. (I did get a good POST however.) I figured it cant be RAM or CPU, as both are sending data to my motherboard in the bios, which means my motherboard isn't bad either. How can I fix this?

Can I get more info on this failed boot? was it a select proper boot device error or was it windows saying it failed. Did it have an error code?

Do you have 2 hard drives in that system or just the one?

Just one hard drive.

New hardware = re install windows...

You can't re-install without wiping the hard-drive though.

If it was a NEW drive, you will need to clone the old one over or reinstall. If not post back and we will see what else can be done.

Is the error windows related or something else? Reboot and select proper boot device.

The key here is the new motherboard. If you are installing to a new drive you will have to do a clean install regardless unless you do the clone and then redo the MBR to allow for the new motherboard. Also, if its a pre-existing drive, the MBR on the drive within Windows is still looking for the old motherboard indicators thus causing the failed boot error.

I'm curious like nukemaster to see more information about the error message received.

Thanks everyone, I worked it out, i have to copy my disk on to a new one and do a clean install and then copy everything back over. If seems to be a windows related error. I figured out that when you install windows a HAL is created for your set of hardware, kind like what Hedwar2011 was talking about. But unfortunetly i cannot provide you guys with an error message, because i never got one.
