Question BAD_POOL_CALLER BSOD caused by "rcbottom.sys" on new drive when launching games ?

Hi guys, so I recently Recently bought a new SSD for games, installed and registered fine but when I try to play some games from that drive my PC BSODs with the stop code BAD_POOL_CALLER. I checked the minidump file and its points to something called rcbottom. sys which is something to do with StoreMI by AMD.

I tried uninstalling the StoreMI storage controller through device manager as others have suggested but that just resulted in my PC failing to boot with a INACESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE stop code. Any advice on how to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also worried that my other drives are using StoreMI as I don't remember ever installing it so I'm assuming it was installed by default so is there any way to see which drives are actually making use of StoreMI ?

The rcbottom.sys driver is the AMD RAID driver and I'm guessing you don't want to use this drive in RAID mode. You don't specify what SSD you installed, but it sounds as though the BIOS is not configured correctly for that SSD drive. You should have a read through your motherboard manual about SSD drive configuration and also look through the manual that came with the drive. In particular, if this is an NVMe SSD you may need to make changes in the BIOS for the M.2 port it's plugged in to.

Hi there, thanks for the reply I Read through the manual for both the mobo and the drive before I installed it, Which is a Crucial P3. The only thing I found in the motherboard manual is that the slot I was installing it on (M.2_1) only supports PCIe mode. other than that I installed the drivers from Crucial's support site but couldn't find anything about enabling a PCIe mode or configuring the BIOS for a new Drive.

Can we have some details then please? What motherboard is it? What SSD is it? Also post full details of the other specs.

My PC specs are as follows.

Mobo: X470 gaming plus max
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050
Ram: 24GB
OS: Windows 11
Boot Drive: WDS500G2B0B M.2 2280
New Drive:CT2000P3SSD8
BIOS: H.H0

A little more info, Device Manager Lists all my drives as SCSI and Disk Management list them all as basic, including the new one, not sure if that's relevant. AFAIK StoreMI isn't currently installed on my system and I've never Updated my BIOS on this board before.

Are you using RAID on any SATA devices? If not, is the SATA BIOS option set to ACHI (and not RAID)?
Do you have the AMD RAID driver installed (from your motherboard website)?
Are the games you're playing from RIOT by any chance? I can see the Riot Vanguard anti-cheat driver vgk.sys unloading immediately before the BSOD and that's suspicious. The vgk.sys driver is a very common cause of BSODs. Can you please try uninstalling Vanguard and see whether playing games other than Riot games causes BSODs?
I can also see that you have Malwarebytes installed, which is fine, but Malwarebytes needs to be kept up to date, so can you be sure you're using the latest version of Malwarebytes please.

Hi there, I was able to fix this last night by downloading MSI RAID drivers and replacing the storemi driver with those in the device manager.

If it's worth noting, the games I was trying to play were on steam and the SATA BIOS was set to ACHI
