Recently my network went down, after checking everything i thought id check the connection directly to the net it didnt work either. after installing formatting and reinstalling drivers and such my onboard still wouldnt work properly, i even brought it to a friends house to use his internet and it still didnt work. the connection will tell me that it is connected, and that information has been sent and recieved yet still nothing, if i run ipconfig/all i get an ip and such... but if i try to ping a site, it times out. i also try to run my other puter threw the new router i bought, says the same thing but nothing internet loads. any ideas from anyone?

Otay... let's get started
What operating system are you running? WinXP?
You said "Recently my network went down"
What happened that caused it to go down?
"after checking everything"
Checking what?
"thought id check the connection directly to the net"
You mean connecting your pc directly to either a) your cable modem or b) your dsl modem to your pc right...
"i get an ip and such"
what ip are you getting? 192.x addy or isp provided?
are you running it in dhcp or static?
try to ping your loopback address 127.0.0.1
if you get a reply
check your gateway, and try to ping it
ensure that it is set to be obtained automatically if your isp issues it in such a manner
if you are using WinXP and you have SP2 installed check your software firwall config.
*also you might reset your winsock catalog from the command prompt using the command "netsh winsock reset catalog"
if you are not running WinXP or if you are running a 3rd party firewall check it's config

these all all things that your isp is going to have you do if & when you call them for support
(i know because i work for one)

ps - do you have another pc you can try on your home connection?

!!! Try First !!!
pps - dont forget to power cycle the modem!
