Hello everyone! I am just wondering, if I bake a video,a GTX 660 that is artifacting bad, how would I say, clean the oven after? Or would a cheap toaster over do the same? What would I need to if I were to? I am just wondering. Thank you everyone!

Solution
If your toaster oven isn't a cheap pos and do 400 fahrenheit then go for it, just make sure to clean the card before hand and make sure the problem isn't just bad temps before baking it. Baking is a very hit or miss and should only be done as a last resort. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes max and let it set for an hour to slowly cool. I have even baked dual gpu cards and laptop boards lol.

GPU side up! Don't worry about cleaning the oven unless you burn something.

Remove the cooler, i/o bracket, and all the thermal pads from the card then clean up any thermal compound as well any oils left behind from the thermal pads. Set the card on top on four balls made from aluminum foil and be sure to place gpu side up. It is ok to put the card in...

It is ok to put the card in while the oven warms up as you just don't want to throw it in when the oven is hot (thermal stress).

Success varies and it is basically a lottery if the card is going to work or not let alone last. Some end up lasting for years while others they don't work at all. If the card works after the oven bake you need from now on make sure the card doesn't overheat or you risk bricking it for good and don't ignore the vram and vrms as they can brick the card if any of them fail.

One of the big downsides to this if you do it hot like 400 the cards come out a little brittle and if you do it too cool it can make the problems worse.

Solution
well its like this plenty of articles and forums on how to just look around

then it comes down to if it works as you expect and your card gets new life then great if not then your in the same boat looking for a new replacement card

they bake it in the oven but then you got to think of any toxic fumes released form baking it in the oven you cook your own food in ??

good luck

Yea, long story short, guy siad the card worked and I traded him a $40 monitor and $15 for it, got it home and saw artifacts. I then messaged him and he said it worked, later after I tried a lot of different solutions, he then said it was an AS IS deal... But yea. it would just be for a back up for my 760 I just got for my old LGA775 board, just got my Q9550 today. But this is the best answer BTW! Thanks a lot

If the person you bought said it worked, that was pretty clearly a lie. If the card was listed through craigslist, there would be a paper trail about shape of the card, did the listing say "as is"? Even if it was, he said it worked, when it did not. While the police likely won't care much to help out in this case, you have his contact number, tell him you will contact them and say you are trying to pass of broken goods as working and is basically stealing, say you will call the local police and will ask if you can do anything about it through them. Most likely you will get your stuff back.

It wasnt Craigslist. I first dealt with the guy from a Facebook group page. Then a couple weeks later, which is this case. He messaged me saying that he had a couple more video cards that he is willing to sell. I just assumed they worked from when he first messaged me. And when I got home and tested it, I messaged him saying that it was Artifacting bad, he then said "Did you bend/break a Pin?" trying to say that I broke it. Then After I tested all the DVI and the 1 HDMI he said that it was working when he pulled it from his machine, then alter after I said I didnt are about the monitor I just wanted the money back so I can pay my Father abck, who I asked for the extra cash, he then said it was an "AS IS" deal like the last one... So I dont really care, I will just message the Group Mods and warm them about him

The issue with a "working" card is that if you just look at it while Windows is running, not in a game, a bad card can still "test" OK LOL

There is enough of a percentage of people selling bad cards that you need to watch out for that when getting a used video card.

Wasnt even in game, it was during boot and idle on Windows Desktop, but what got me thinking, during a screen saying that I dont have a CD drive installed, the artifacts just disappear. Then right after I accept the message they come right back
