Perhaps it's me but I liked BG2 better than NWN. The plot was better and the
characters more lively (Minsc and Boo especially). Anyone feel the same?

Yes, I do feel the same way.
My favorite character is Viconia.
All character has "personality".
I like BG2 combat better, because I can use more tactics. BG2 let me tell
each 6 character what to do.
Is it just me? Sometimes NWN frustrates me because that henchman does what
he or she wants to do not quite 100% of my control. Say, HOU, Nathyrra keeps
casting spell to the one who is immune to magic. I want her to do something
better but no control.

I hope new game Dragon Age gets lots of BG flavor.

I have played some of BG2 and it is okay but one thing I don't like about
it is the combats are too "puzzley" (where you got to figure out the
exact sequence of spells/tactics to beat them). Too much reload and die,
reload and die. I like the story, I may try and beef up my characters
with an editor to make the combats easier and finish it just to see the
rest of the story.

NWN's main campaign story may not be BG2 quality but the game as a whole
(including all the many great user modules, multiplayer, etc) is great.

BG1 and BG2 were great games but there is no real comparison between them
and NWN. The only simularities revolve around AD&D and even there the rule
sets are different. I really enjoy the BG's and NWN but for totally
different reasons.

Yes I do.

But I have to remind you that the main selling point of NWN is not the OC.

Yes, in my opion too, BG2 is the best pc-rpg ever, roleplaying wise.

But comparing BG2 is NWN is pointless aswell, the game engines are so
radically different that in gameplay they hardly resemble each other. Both
games are excellent. BG(2) is focused on party play, as NWN is more of a
solo adventure (even with a henchman). The storylines too are far stricter
in NWN aswell as areas where you can go at any given in the game in
comparison with BG. But NWN's strength is in modules, you don't ever run out
of new adventures to play. Which also means the level of story quality
varies a lot; some good, some not.

BG2 strengths are incredibly large gamearea, lots and lots of side quests.
better NPC's. It's also a great deal more slow paced then NWN, whether
that's a good or a bad thing depends on ones preferences. You can play
through NWN OC in a week (with all sidequests)...BG2 takes a heck of a lot
longer if you plan to visit every possible location.

I like them both. Currently I'm focused on NWN modules though, since the
stories remain fresh. Playing BG2 through again requires some time in
between or it will get too familiar. Then again whenever I do it, I always
play through with a single character from BG1->TOSC->BG2->TOB and go for the
BIG METAL UNIT at the end....imagine how long that takes, realtime, since I
don't play on a daily bases...a better part of a year.

I too like to control other peoples actions. But darn it they have free will
of there own!....

I think you are approaching NWN all wrong. You are in control of one
character. The game is a 1st person point of control. In other words one
player to one character.

Yes Nathyrra is fustrating just like all women.

For my taste the main plot (Irenicus) wasn't the best part of BG2. And for
those like me who knew Minsc from BG1, he appeared to be more or less a
disappointment, because he was the only NPC without a private quest. What
really made the game above average were the other characters with their long
and sometimes winding stories like Jaheira, Viconia, and Anomen, (don't
forget Jan Jansen). I think the only character in NWN who has got a
comparable personality is Deekin 🙂

Just my 2c

I don't think I can tell Nathyrra to not to use magic once battle starts,
because she will be too busy to have conversation.

Anyways, don't get me wrong I like NWN and I admit Insane Ranger and Vellu's
opinions are right. I just love BG so much even time consuming game. I wish
they made BG3.

I played NWN OC & HOU but SOU. Am I missing something good?
