Ok, so I plan on getting a monitor for my gaming laptop which the one I'm looking at has a 144hz refresh @1440p (My laptop can most definitely handle that its just a matter of connection bandwidth)
But anyways, would the usb c 3.1 or hdmi 2 ports be able to output that and maintain the 1440p 144hz buttery goodness?

Edit: I imagine the only usb c type connection to support this would be tb3 but surprisingly enough, my laptop only has a regular usb c 3.1 which sucks.. Also, someone's told me at some point that hdmi can only support up to 120hz, but the validity of that statement remains unclear.

Solution
Yes, though most USB ports with video output are run by the CPU-integrated graphics rather than the graphics chip, so you would want to run from HDMI. In this case you would want to make sure the monitor supports 1440p 144 Hz over HDMI, not all 1440p 144 Hz monitors will support this.
