Just built a new system around a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R.
Very happy with how quickly and easily the build went.

About how the bandwidth is shared across the SATA controllers I'm a bit unclear.

I have three SATA devices, thusly:
* SATA 3.0 new hard drive on the 6Gb/s Marvell 9128 (port 6)
* older SATA i think a 1.5Gb/s on the Gigabyte SATA2 (port 8)
* SATA dvd drive, on the ICH10R (port 3)

Am I slowing down my SATA 6G drive by having these other older devices connected?

Oh, and the USB connectors... I seem to have a problem if i connect the cables to the external USB ports on the front of my case to the USB connectors on the motherboard bottom edge, then the usb ports on the back of the mobo dont work. Is this normal?

Looks like I fell for the marketing hype! Nonetheless I have been very happy with this Gigabyte board so far. I had virtually no issues getting the system up and running from almost complete scratch.

I tried the USB connections again and they do appear to work now; the issue looks to be related to the previous WinXP install on my older hdd, not recognizing the USB hub on the mainboard I guess, before I changed the drive order so Win7 on the newer drive boots first.

I'll reconnect the SATA devices as recommended and very much appreciate the feedback!
