Bang 4 Buck - Dragon system built around X3 720

Oct 22, 2008
I need to know if this is the best bang for my buck. I already have an Antec 300 ready and waiting and a P2 X3 720 Black Edition on order for this build.

174.99 - SAPPHIRE 100259L Radeon HD 4870 512MB

124.99 - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W

114.99 - GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4

99.99 - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit

79.99 - Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB

59.99 - G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2

25.99 - LG Black 22X (CAV) DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X

21.99 - Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard & Mouse

19.99 - ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro

6.99 - ARCTIC COOLING MX-2 Thermal Compound

19.36 - shipping

I'll be playing on a 19" moniter at 1280x1024 resolution at least until midsummer or Christmas when I plan on getting a larger screen(probably a 22" panel). I am going to overclock the CPU but probably only to 3.5 - 3.6Ghz. I have no plans to really push it to the extreme.

I picked the Corsair 750TX to cover power requirements for adding another 4870 in the future.

Is it worth another $60 to go to a 4870 1GB card?

Also I see the Sapphire 4850 X2 1GB card for $234.99. Would it be worth it to go to this card? I could not Crossfire anything with it because of the current 750W power supply would not meet power requirements.

Can I do better from a value standpoint? If so, where.

1. 19" you choice is 4870 512MB
2. 22" or 24" 1GB is better
3. Just Pick 4780 that have fast mem and core speed, and you do just fine.
