Long story short, went to repair my computer to discover I need a new computer. Currently sitting on a new gtx 970 and 1000w gold supernova psu needing to buy ram, cpu and mobo. I'll use existing haf cooler master case and liquid cpu cooler.

My initial thoughts were to pick up an msi 97 gaming 5 motherboard, 12gbs of ripjaw or gskill snipers, and a 4790k Devils canyon quad core.

Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't get an i7 5820k and 2011 socket mobo instead.

My questions:
Will the extra cost be worth it?
If so, what's a decently priced and reliable 2011 mobo?
What's some decent ram to pick up for this setup anywhere between 8 and 16gb?

Things to consider:
I'm looking to get 2-3 years of decent performance and possibly add or upgrade video cards at a later date. Ideally, throw another 970 in there.

Agghhh, the headache of not having purchased hardware in years.

Thanks everyone who helps

if you are doing it for gaming, then neither would be the best bang for the buck. neither CPU benefits gaming enough to matter. if you were to ignore that and get one of these two anyway, i would go with the 4790k because it is cheaper and would be less useless for gaming.
if you are doing rendering and other editing things, then either of these would probably work for you, but for gaming, i would actually go with an i5. by going with an i5, you would easily be able to get a 2nd 970 to put in,

2-3 years? Go with the 4790k build, if you need ram, cpu, and mobo for your "5820k" build, it has to be a x99/DDR4 build, each of them are at like $250+ each, so unless you wanna spend a lot, I'd stick with 4790k build since it is only 3 years.
