Barely getting 60 fps on older games

Hi!
So I am currently replaying some "older games" (or at least I'm trying)
Like Far Cry 3 and the older Fallout games - i bought a new graphics card so it should be pretty flawless I thought.
Today I played Far Cry 3 and in some areas the fps drop to 30-40 on ultra. I tried different settings, vsync on and off. No changes.
I uncapped the fps and I reached over 100 fps in some areas but then the random drops happen. I play on an older 60hz 1080p monitor (until i get a new one next month) and I can play more recent games like Dooms at ultra and 200fps solid so that baffles me even more :(
Can somebody help me? Does anybody know the issue?

My Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 (no oc)
GPU: Palit GeForce GTX 1080 Super JetStream (no oc)
Ram: 16GB G.Skill Flare
Mobo: Asus Prime B350M-E

Try monitoring the temperatures and clock speed if your CPU + GPU. Something might be overheating, causing either the CPU or GPU to throttle and run at lower clock speeds.

When you do that, also check CPU and GPU usage percentage when playing games

If you have any mods for Fallout 3/nv certain mods prevent the game from using the GPU at all. Happened to me.

Also make sure your 1080 is running in PCIe x16, if it's running any lower that will destroy your framerate.

I'm using Afterburner and the top temps on the GPU were 55 degrees and 50 on the cpu after 1 hour of gameplay.

The usage is not even close to 100% on the gpu and all the cpu's cores

Yeah its running in x16.
I think it might be just bad optimization on these older games. If the don#t run on the gpu after certain mods thats no wonder. Many of the older games don't use multi core cpu's i guess

I have two gtx 1070s in SLI, and Oblivion runs at like 20fps. Given I have 4K shadows, hltra quality on everything, set exterior shadow count to 100, ugrids 9... BUT! Changing the amount of cores that the Havok physics engine can use from 1 to 8 gave me another 20-30 FPS.

If the games you have have any sort of INI files to change settings, look around for any multithreading settings.
