The ST1000DM003 has average Read/Write speeds of 156MB/s and a maximum Read speed of 210MB/s.
Here's the link for the spec sheet of the drive: http://www.seagate.com/files/staticfiles/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/barracuda-desktop-hdd-ds-1770-1-1212us.pdf

The WD10EZEX maximum Read/Write speeds of 150MB/s.
Here's the link for the spec sheet of the drive: http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/SpecSheet/ENG/2879-701277.pdf

The ST1000DM003 is the slightly faster drive. You probably won't notice any real-world difference between the 2 drives.

a few weeks back, I spent several days trying to find a comparison of some sort between these two. The conclusion I came to was base your decision off brand preference or price. I believe both drives are single platter drives and have the same warranty. You'll find them at different prices depending on the retailer/e-tailer. One will be cheaper at newegg, but the other will be cheaper at amazon.
