I got me an old kyrotech superG unit on the way since my old 8k3a/xp1800 setup died I'm buying new components. In the mobo section I asked for suggestions on a mobo with my primary concearn being a socket with lots of room around it as this cooler was designed for slot A devices and I'm going to have to work hard to adapt it to a condensation safe socket A cooler. My question is how good is the average barton 2500? Should I spend an extra 80 for the next one up or will a 2500 at -20c get the same speed in the end? Unfortunately I have no way of picking out specific steppings as I buy online but on average what can I expect? 2.4-2.6ghz is the figure I got from the vapochill forums. Unfortunately due to the age of the cooler I may only reach around -10c overclocked at load overclocked.

I would never risk messing around with non-designed phase-change cooling because you can screw up your CPU and mobo with them if you do it wrong... but that is your choice.

I say 2.4 GHz should be reachable... maybe higher.

My CPU fan spins so fast that it creates a wormhole 😱

Motherboard choice will be important, make sure you get one with 4 phase power so you can possibly breach 2.2Ghz with stability. With 2 phase power you will see fluctuation in vcore voltages with that processor at higher speeds resulting in instability.

any reccomendations? epox? asus? msi? I was thinking I'd go with a vantec stealth 520 or an antec true 480 as a psu.

the vantec stealth sucks....the antec is a much better power supply....dont forget about enermax power supplies either because they are top notch performers....

I would also be ify about installing the cooling system you mentioned....I think you should just buy my cooling system I have available and then purchase a couple peltiers and be on your way =]

The Epox 8RDA3+ is prob going to be your best overclocking mobo for the xp

Best bet is to go with the NF2 Ultra 400 chipset, the Delta or the Triton boards are both good choices. If you want to see some benchies from my Delta tell me what you want to see.

I was thinking about going with abit just for it's beautiful layout, there's lots of room near that socket for the evaporator to fit, but after much research I've found soooo many bugs and low enchmarks from them that I think I will go with something different. How's the layout of your delta?

Good, I will upload some pics. my only problem is 3 dimm slots and not 4. whats up with that...

MSI has done a good job on this NF2, perfect operation so far. Capable of 229FSB so far with PC3500C2 Corsair

well I'm not gonna just slap it on and go it's going to be a long tough process trying to figure out the safest way to put it on. What cooler are you selling? I may want it for a secondary machine I'm piecing together. Water cooler? I sure wouldn't use a peltier with an aircooling unit... The vantec psu is a good unit, the 520watt version out performs the 500watt antecs in practice. I rather like its low noise output as well, I'm working on making my system as silent as possible. I can't stand the high pitched whirring fans any longer.

Dude, stay away from the Vantec PSU's, http://www.anandtech.com did a review, and it ended up being the worse of the four they check out. Loud three fans, and low ratings, especially on the 12 volt line. Stick with your enermax or antec, or fortron, as Crash said

Instead of Rdram, why not just merge 4 Sdram channels...
