I recently purchased a barton 2500+ and I am using the stock cooler with it. My mobo is MSI k7n delta nForce2. The reason I am concerned is that, during tasks such as surfing and writing e-mail, PCAlert reports a CPU temp. of 58 C. Is this normal? I remember reading somewhere that the temp. shouldn't exceed 50 C under load. Thanks for your help!

58 is kinda warm whats the ambient room temp like.

You may wish to try some Artic Silver or other quality thermal compound.

and or a better HSF

as well as seeing if you can increase airflow in the case.

Do not use Arctic Silver, you will void your warranty, are you sure when you installed the heatsink, it had a thermal pad? You definently need to reinstall the heatsink, you didn't install properly, I doubt if it's making proper contact with CPU core.

Go to the MSI forum on MicroStar's web-site. You can't trust any temps you get off of that board.
