i havent been able to get a straight answer for this question for a while. i have a barton cpu with a nforce 2 board that doesnt have the 4 pin p4 connector. ive had people tell me that all post p3-computers use the 12v line from the power supply, and ive had people tell me that you need the 4 pin connector, and otherwise the cpu runs off the 5v line. can somebody clear this for me please, as its bugging me.

both of you still didnt answer my question. i know i dont need the p4 connector if its not there, and the cpu doesnt run off the 3.3v line. if you ever went on an online wattage calc, some would assume all run off the 12v line and others ask if you have the p4 connector. why would you think they stress higher 12v amps if the cpu ran off the 3.3v?

Because they are idiot intel fanboys would be my guess. What is your question?
I have never heard of or seen a connection to the v-regs from the 5v rail. It isn't done.

Think about it logically, Julius. How much juice does your Barton need? 1.65v? Or maybe you pop 1.7v to it? For a small draw like that why would it need to be on the 12v rail?

Abit IS7 - 3.0C @ 3.6ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100

Intel uses the 12v rail. I think the A64s do as well. It's a question of current draw on the rail. That EE they are using in the stress test is using 130+ watts. On the 12v rail, that's almost 11 amps. On the 3.3 rail, it would be 40 amps. That's just too much current to try to pass through the psu leads that feed the voltage regulators.

wusy, you flashed your 9800se bios to a xt, and im wondering if i should do the same. is there any benefits over w/e my card came with stock, besides permanently enabling the 8 pipes and the higher clocks?
