Baseball games

i'm a total newbie to the baseball console game and i picked up
MVP2005. hate to admit it, but i was sold because manny ramirez of the
red sox was on the cover... i'm a long-time sox fan. MLB2K5 has the
yankees on the cover. that's just dumb marketing, in my opinion... it
wouldn't surprise me if the box art had been decided long before the
2004 world series even took place. then after, the dufus marketeer who
ok'd the box art just sort of started sending out his resume.

anyhow, back to your question -

PROS:
i am really enjoying MVP2005. it's very clean and extremely polished
looking. there was virtually zero learning curve. i just put it in and
started playing. getting to know the timing and such takes a few games,
but that's with anything. i especially like the create-a-player... i
made myself a starting pitcher and was delighted to hear them announce
my name. very cool. the multiple modes are too deep for me to indulge
in, but it's nice to know they are there. some fun mini-games, but the
batting game is addicting, as is the homerun challenge.

CONS:
basically, it's the technology, but the players often seem routined and
stiff. i noticed this when i played madden for the first time. it's
nothing bothersome, just noticable. biggest cons for me though, would
be the announcer. there's two guys and the younger guy is just
annoying. also, no option for custom soundtracks... bummer. navigating
through the menus can sometimes lead to "hunh?" every now and then, but
again, with time it feels natural. lastly, when a batter charges the
mound, they cut the scene. it would have been nice to see a brawl, but
i guess it's a family game and all...

overall, i think i made a great choice. i am not on Live!, so i don't
know anything about that. i'm just enjoying the single player game a
lot. hope this helped!

Yup, both games have pro's and con's. Even though Bonds has not served time
yet, he's a con in this both games. They had to keep him a secert. They
change his name and even his skin color.

There are at least two threads here and at lkeast two opinions on which game
is better. They both rated pretty high and have their individual strong
points. One is $30 and one is $20. Read some more and make up your mind. I
chose ESPN 2K5 and have no regrets whatsoever, but youyr mileage may vary.

There is no more ESPN Baseball. Play them both and decide for yourself.

To clarify...this year's effort is called Major League Baseball 2K5 powered
by ESPN. It is often referred to as ESPN or MLB 2K5. Neither is perfectly
correct, but most non-anal people let it slide.

The Yankees are still better than the Red Sox. Don't let the dramatics of
last year cloud reality.

Will that erase the tagline the Sox stamped on the yanks last year? You
know, the one that reads: Worst Playoff Collapse In Baseball History?

No but nor will last year erase the "Perennial runner-up" stigma either.

let's just recap for a moment.

amercan league playoffs, 2004... yankees versus red sox.

yankees ahead 3 games to none.

red sox then go on to win 4 games in a row, not to mention sweeping the
world series.

these simple facts prove that the 2004 red sox are in fact, BETTER than
the 2004 yankees.

all other points are moot. you can deny the facts all you want, but
you'll be sitting in a false reality using your index finger and your
thumb to measure your ego.

nuff said. as you were. ;o)

Well considering you are referring to what HAPPENED in the past, and
everything I have said has referred to THIS year, you are technically
speaking out of your ass. Everything I will continue to say will have to do
with this year's Yankees dominating the Sox once again. You can talk about
the past all you want but the past extends past last year if you want to
look at it that way. 23-2 is all that needs to be said. My ego is just
fine. Thank you very much for inquiring.

as for what will happen, i can't say... i'm not as gifted with
predicting the future as you.
i'll take the season as it comes.

as for what DID happen, you can post all the stats you like, but there
was only one world champion team in 2004, and it wasn't from new york.
you got your favorite team, and i got mine. what happened in the
playoffs last year was a fluke, admittedly, but it was nothing short of
beautiful.

23-2, what's that? Did you mean 26-6? Are you even a baseball fan?
At least the Yankee teams in the late 90's were deserving of respect.

Oh yeah, how did those Mattingly-led Yankees do, anyway? 😛
